An Announcement & Thanksgiving

Hello, my dear readers. :)

Hope you've been enjoying the nice long weekend like I have been!

It's finally May - the 2 year anniversary since this little blog grew from a little spark of an idea to a full-fledged accessories blog. It's been a wonderful 2 years of learning, juggling my time, letting the creative juices flow, and making pretty creations. I hope you've enjoyed reading my rambly nonsense and that you've loved wearing the pieces that you've purchased / customised.

I'm not sure how else to say it, but...

I think it's time to semi-retire. 

I still love making accessories a great deal, and will probably still do so from time to time. However, maintaining this site and completing orders and keeping to an admittedly self-imposed schedule (coz I'm ridiculous like that) is getting a little difficult when working a full-time job, and I don't want to see this passion become a chore. So this is me announcing my semi-retirement.

HAHA- what does semi-retirement mean anyway? You ask.

Well it means that:-

1. This blog is still gonna stay up. 

2. The currently available accessories will still be available for purchase, so purchase away. :D

3. Items that are tagged available for remakes may still be remake-able - all you have to do is email me and enquire, and if I have the time (and energy), this is a possibility!

4. Customisation may not be quite so possible anymore. If you've been a regular customer and you merely wish for a slight change to an existing accessory... I may still say yes. But if it's something from scratch and may require quite a bit of my time, then I may say no.

5. I may still post on this blog from time to time, when inspiration strikes and I just have to share a design with you. It'll just be much less frequent.

Haha, sorry. I realise that this is super vague. I suppose it's coz I'm too nostalgic to shut down this site entirely, and it's not that I'm so tired that I wish to stop it altogether. 

So yeah, that's what I mean by semi-retirement. When in doubt, just enquire lah. ;)

A massive thank you to each and everyone of you who has explored this site, contributed your ideas, been sweet and lovely customers, and showed your appreciation for all things hand-crafted and made with love. Magenta Mine

In a bit of a melancholy mood tonight, so indulge me a little, dear readers.

And I shall preface this with a little "yes, yes, I know that this is an accessories business and not an outlet for the silly author's feelings"... so I shall keep it short. You ever feel just a little bit lost, a bit unmoored in the vast ocean that is life? Yeah... I get struck with that feeling sometimes, and now is one of those times.

So I decided to wallow a little by listening to one of the most bittersweet and wistful Chinese oldies that I know. I had to share it, coz sharing is caring, ya know? Gosh, cry me a river and let me drown in those tears.

Okay, now that I've gotten those feelings out of the way, we're onto the actual point of this post.

So... my mummy somehow managed to lose the handbag charm that I made for her (here!) (or someone stole it off her handbag, le gasp!), so I made her a new one.

This one features the same Live Love Laugh charm, and some new stones that I found in Bangkok that I am super in love with. Here's Hope Springs:

 Charms and beads that remind me of my mum the most - Hope, an encouragement to always Live well, Laugh often and Love always. Made with love, and featuring my newest Bangkok find - these lovely semi-precious stones that I think are Rain Flower Stones (雨花石). I can't be very sure, since these weren't labelled in the tiny Chatuchak stall that I found them in... but aren't they pretty? Adore the pinkish green blend, and the stones are cool to the touch.

Hi folks!

I'm excited about this post as it's the first to feature beads from Bangkok! So after braving the scorching and sweltering and crawl-out-of-your-skin and douse-yourself-in-icecubes heat of Chatuchak, I found the section and lanes that sold beads! Row after row of semi-precious stones and crystals and beads. *___* Being the fine example of self-control that I am, I limited myself to a few choice purchases. 

Here's the first, named opalline, as it features chinese crystal doughnuts in pretty opal shades. 

 I've not been able to find these shades here -- rose opal and lavender opal chinese crystal doughnuts, coupled with my favourite clover links and cutesy rose charms. Absolutely adoreee the cloudy opal shades of these crystals.

Ah, music. What would we do without it?​ I've been a fan of music and singing (at the top of my lungs, in showers and in cars, everywhere, all the time) since a very young age. Music is such a big part of how we navigate the world and express emotions and relate to one another.

For Ivy

This is a belated birthday shoutout to Ivy, who celebrated her birthday early this month. :)

Ivy is getting married soon as well, so this birthday gift was made for her with one of the most important events in her life (or more like a journey, since it is a neverending one, hehe) in mind. Love is a many splendoured thing, it is patient, it is kind... all you need is love, love is all you need (this is me quoting all the songs and bible verses that immediately come to mind). 

So this is a birthday gift to Ivy - wishing her lots of love, and joy, and adventures in this momentous year!

An asymmetrical necklace, because Ivy is a fan of the quirky and asymmetrical, with an adjustable Swarovski Heart pendant, adjusted by moving the chain up and down the Believe ring at the centre. 

 A close up of the ever-stunning Swarovski heart in rich red, which is accompanied by a clover link and a deep red chinese crystal doughnut. The Believe ring is one of my more recent finds, and I love it quite a bit. :)

Interstellar

I have a confession - I have yet to watch the cinematographic masterpiece that is Interstellar. I've been told it's great, so I shall watch it one day! For the time being, I have made a simple pair of earrings with these new disco-ball like crystals that I have just bought, matched with Moon and Star charms. 

(Look, I'm totally mastering the art of short and succinct posting! ;) )

The moon, the stars, and some intergalactic strobe lights. These crystals differ from the typical round-faceted crystals featured in my creations - they have many many facets, all which glitter and shine in a manner resembling little disco balls.

Watercolour

Every now and then you experience lapses in creativity and cannot think of nice names to name your creations.

This is one of those times!

I recently acquired these pretty, translucent watercolour faux pearls and decided to make myself a pair of earrings with it. I wanted something simple and dainty, as is my usual modus operandi. :)

Here, oh-so-creatively named Watercolour, is my new favourite pair of earrings:

 Celtic Square Beads matched with the white faux pearls that have pretty splashes of pastel paint, which gives them a watercolour effect.

Amethyst Medley

Sisters are doin' it for themselves!

I ain't got no RnB soul, unfortunately. Can't dance, can't groove to save my life.

Anywaaay, there was actually a point I was trying to make. Today's post features 3 bracelets that were made for 3 sisters! To be very specific, they were made for my 3 aunties, who are all strong admirable women worth looking up to. 

Once upon a time, about 2 months ago, my youngest aunty saw my mummy wear the first bracelet I ever made for her (click here!) and liked it quite a bit. At the urging of my mummy, and also because I recently acquired some lovely semi-precious Amethyst beads, I decided to make my 3 aunties matching bracelets! I quite like the similar yet slightly varied bracelets -

A medley of amethyst-themed bracelets, with silver and dark silver faux pearls, and faux pearls with different shades of purple. All fixed with a heart clasp, and capped off at the end with a Made with Love charm.

Hi hello!

This shall be the shortest of all short posts as I am flying off to Japan (wheeeeeee!) tonight and time is of the essence!

Here's a pair of earrings I made for myself, with celtic knot links that I really reaaaaally love. Brings to mind an ancient, forgone time - hence the name Baroque. My friend Jah says Alhambra comes to her mind when she sees it, but Baroque sounds cooler, so Baroque it is. So much for keeping this post concise. On with the pictures!

Hogwarts Houses

Has anyone heard the recent adorable story where Tom Felton (of sneaky Slytherin Draco Malfoy fame) recently joined Pottermore? If you don't know what this is, then this post may not make much sense to you. Consider yourself warned. :p

For the uninitiated, Pottermore is an awesome Harry Potter interactive site which contains chapter-by-chapter illustrations and lovely little 'extra' stories from the Harry Potter Universe, written by Queen Rowling herself. One of the first few interactive things you do is get yourself sorted into one of the Hogwarts Houses by answering some questionnaire (a very very basic and probably not scientifically-sound (but who cares) personality test). Tom Felton got sorted into Gryffindor, which is all kinds of hilarious, given that his character loathes Gryffindor with the fire of a thousand suns.

So anyway, I have of course been a member of this site since it first came out, and was quite predictably sorted into Ravenclaw. Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure, yo! Also, I am a total geek. Like that wasn't obvious from the constant geeky tangents that I go off on. :D

 An antique brass bookmark with a cobalt blue (Ravenclaw colours yo!) Czech Preciosa bead and the cutest little witch on a broomstick. Reminds me of Hermione, except that she doesn't like flying. I fell in love with this charm at first sight, and of course had to buy it.

Oh weekend, never leave me!
