Summer Scent - Customised

Weekends are so very lovely, and I hope you're having a good one yourself. 

One of my favourite things to do is when customers like a particular creation of mine, and ask me to expand on that design to create a matching set. My colleague Kim asked me to customise a set based on the Summer Scent earrings, which was really fun for me to do. 

Originally made as part of the Seasons collection, the earrings were supposed to convey the bright and fresh scent of summer, in warm yellow, blue and green tones. Imagine a warm summer day when the sky is blue, the sun is shining, and you are walking through a field of brilliant green. Hope you like this matching set! :)

Epicyclical -

a small circle, around which a planet was thought to revolve.

 

 I first came across this word, oddly, while immersing myself in the Harry Potter fandom. Now the famous author of The Mortal Instruments trilogy, back in the day, Cassandra Clare wrote Harry Potter fanfiction and published them from her livejournal account "epicyclical". I've always loved this word and now have named a pair of earrings that I made for myself after it.

Hope these earrings capture the sweet and whimsical flair that the name suggests.

Work has been terribly exhausting this week, so forgive me if I am less coherent than usual (or rather, more incoherent than usual). Hope y'all are having a better week at work/school than I am. :) Wishing for the weekend already!

We Are Infinite - Customised

And in that moment, I swear we were infinite.

 - Perks of Being a Wallflower

 Hands up everybody who has watched the movie! Lovely movie, very honest and heartfelt. 

Today's post will be a quick one, coz I am knackered from work. It's something I customised for a friend who likes to keep things simple, and has an affinity for the infinity symbol. It's also a double-chained beauty - one of my favourite things to make. :)

 Back to basics - a double-chained necklace that conveys two very simple messages - the round double-twisted ring to symbolise the importance of your loved ones, and the infinity link that means keeping them close, loving them infinitely, forever.

Ultimately, the symbols can mean different things to different people. What meanings do the ones above hold for you?

Moulin Rouge - Customised

Diamonds are a girl's best friend.

So says a famous song performed in the ever lyrical and majestic classic movie musical - Moulin Rouge. Now obviously here at Dainty Little Trinkets we think that affordable trinkets in all sorts of pretty, shiny colours and shapes are good enough, but we are living in a material world, after all. :p I'm rather excited about this post, because it's fun to see how many Moulin Rouge song references I can pack into this post. No matter, I know that you'll bear with me, come what may. Heehee. Ok I'll stop now.

Ah, Moulin Rouge. For the uninitiated, this movie tells the story of young writer, Christian, a hopeless romantic, who falls in love with a courtesan, Satine, the star of the famous Moulin Rouge cabaret show in the heart of Paris. The story of Christian and Satine is a tragic tale filled with star-crossed love, plenty of bittersweet longing, in a setting that is both glamorous and electrifying, but also lonely. (I really like the movie, can you tell? :p)

When Jo Jo emailed me to customise an Eiffel Tower-themed set for her BFF and mentioned that she likes bold, bright colours, Moulin Rouge immediately came to mind. Here is an ode to that era - the glitz, the glamour, the romance and the mystery.

For the uninitiated, the Sunday Stylefile is a monthly blog post where I drool over clothes found in online blogshops, while matching them with one featured accessory. It's the lowest level of fashion journalism possible. Heh. It's also quite fun!

The Key to Spring - Customised

Today's post is another customisation, this time from Angela for her friend who's turning (or maybe has already turned) 21! Ah, twenty one, when life is brimming with promise. I remember being 21, a long time ago. It is customary in Western culture to give young ones turning 21 a key, to symbolise reaching adulthood. The key to wisdom, adulthood, making your own decisions, taking control of your own life. Or something. ;)

Continuing in a long line of customised trinkets, here is a necklace customised for Farah. It's a double-chained beauty loosely based on the Lockheart necklace from the Double Double, Toil and Trouble collection - with a change in colours and a substitution of the padlock charm.

Oh Friday, beautiful Friday. TGIF!

If you're a long-time reader of this blogshop, you would've noticed that I'm a creature of habit. Posts usually go up on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Today I'm breaking protocol because today - 9th of May 2014 is a very special day - my dearest mummy's birthday. She's turning a big 60 (though she looks as young and beautiful as ever). 

My mummy is no stranger to this blog - she's the one who accompanies me on my bead binge-shopping expeditions, is my sounding board for all of my ideas, and my favourite person to make things for. Here's the second bracelet that I customised recently for Jaycee, this time in lace. Way back when, I posted the Hearts and Lace collection, which included this Estelle bracelet, featuring black lace and a lovely celtic heart. Jaycee wanted something similar, but with a Swarovski Heart. Here's Estella, the more glamorous version of the original:

 Black lace with flower motifs, a jet black chinese crystal doughnut, and a Silver Night Swarovski Heart.

 Instead of a lobster clasp, this bracelet uses a toggle clasp. The Silver Night Swarovski heart is a lot more glittery and stunning than it looks in these pictures. I'm quite liking this new addition to my Swarovski heart family. :)

There have been tons of customised accessories to showcase lately, one of the latest being some trinkets for a repeat customer, Jaycee, who once upon a time ordered 6 bracelets from me. :D This time she customised two, one which will feature in this post, and one on Thursday. Onto the first!

Jaycee had previously customised a bunch of chain bracelets, and like any smart shopper with some restraint, was holding back from purchasing more. I can appreciate that, since I could do with a little more restraint when shopping myself. :p Then I went and introduced some new materials to Dainty Little Trinkets' repertoire, and so gave her perfect justification to buy more! After all, it's new material. What new material, you ask? Suede!

First featured in this Everlasting Love bracelet, this was customised to suit Jaycee's tastes a bit more. 

Introducing Eternal Blossom -

 An infinity link wrapped in dark grey faux suede, and a hot pink rose cabochon on a flower filigree, connected to a silver-plated chain.

 The hot pink rose gives this otherwise somber bracelet a little dash of colour. The gray and pink colour combination is one of my favourites.

Fun fact! I named this Eternal Blossom for reasons that are apparent (infinity = eternal, rose =  blossom), but it also reminds me of the enchanted flower in Beauty and the Beast, in the mysterious dark room, in a fragile glass case.
