Porcelain | Jars of Clay Collection: Part 1

Hi hello!

I'll try to keep today's post short because I have to sleep early because I have to get up at 4am to watch the Brazil vs Germany match and I would like to not be a zombie at work tomorrow. Haha. How's that for a run on sentence!

The first part of the Jars of Clay collection features clay beads from the Lun Bawang, part of the Orang Ulu of Sarawak. They have long been producing various handicrafts as a supplement to their income from agricultural work, and I chanced upon their booth during a handicraft market at Tropicana City Mall some time back. Naturally, I spent quite a bit of time poring over hundreds of pretty and so painstakingly handcrafted ceramic beads made using local river clay, and ended up buying lots!

Here's Porcelain, named for the clay bead's resemblance to the porcelain wares of olden days, for that specific, always recognisable cobalt "china" blue.
Off-white clay beads handpainted with swirls and zigzag patterns, in porcelain blue and jet black ink.
As each bead is painstakingly hand-moulded then carefully hand-painted, no one bead is identical. Of course the same patterns and rough sizes are there, but each bead is unique, thus making this bracelet all the more special. :)
